That’s it. That’s the whole shirt. It doesn’t need to say anything else because if you know, you know — and if you don’t, you’re not the one this shirt came looking for.

Gabor’s was the kind of bar that understood its job. Dim enough that your problems stayed in the parking lot. A jukebox that somehow always knew what you needed to hear at exactly the wrong moment. Red vinyl booths that had absorbed approximately forty years of bad decisions and good conversation and couldn’t tell the difference between them. Free pool, which is not a small thing — free pool is a bar saying stay as long as you need to, we’re not counting.

Capitol Hill lost something specific when it closed in 2012. Not just a bar — a pressure valve. A place where the rent was cheap enough that artists and weirdos and night shift workers and people between versions of themselves could all occupy the same room without anyone performing for anyone else. Those rooms are harder to find than people admit until they’re gone.

This shirt is black because Gabor’s was black. Because the booths were red and the lighting was amber and the rest was dark in the specific way that made you feel held rather than hidden.
